Welcome to Carbon County, Montana
Carbon County is located in south central Montana. Carbon County was created on March 4, 1895 from portions of Park and Yellowstone counties and includes an area of 2,066 square miles. The county seat is located in Red Lodge; other towns located within Carbon County include Bearcreek, Belfry, Bridger, Fromberg, Edgar, Silesia, Joliet, Boyd, Roberts, Luther and Roscoe. To the south and west lie the picturesque Beartooth Mountains whose lofty peaks include Montana’s highest, Granite Peak with an elevation of 12,799 feet. Flowing from the mountains, the Clark’s Fork of the Yellowstone River meanders through central portions of the county. On the eastern edge of the county are the Pryor Mountains and the Big Horn River.

Minutes Aug 30 2010

     All Commissioners David Davidson, John Prinkki and Doug Tucker were present.  Clerk and Recorder Linda Ladvala and Commissioner Candidate John Grewell were also present. 

             Tom Kohley met with the Commissioner during the public comment period for a discussion with the Commissioners and Administrative Assistant Linda Mann regarding the budget for Beartooth Recreational Trails. Tom stated that the Commissioners had previously pledged $35,000.00 from the Park Fund, June 5, 2008 for Beartooth Recreational Trail purposes.

      The Commissioners reviewed the minutes of their meeting of August 26, 2010.  Commissioner Tucker moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Commissioner Davidson seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

      The Commissioners reviewed the annual Memorandum of Understanding between Montana Wool Growers Association and Carbon County.  The memorandum covers the period beginning July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.  The county will allocate $3,193.00 or .60 cents per head of sheep for the protection of sheep from predators.  Commissioner Davidson moved to approve the memorandum of understanding. Commissioner Tucker seconded the motion.  Motion carried.
