Welcome to Carbon County, Montana
Carbon County is located in south central Montana. Carbon County was created on March 4, 1895 from portions of Park and Yellowstone counties and includes an area of 2,066 square miles. The county seat is located in Red Lodge; other towns located within Carbon County include Bearcreek, Belfry, Bridger, Fromberg, Edgar, Silesia, Joliet, Boyd, Roberts, Luther and Roscoe. To the south and west lie the picturesque Beartooth Mountains whose lofty peaks include Montana’s highest, Granite Peak with an elevation of 12,799 feet. Flowing from the mountains, the Clark’s Fork of the Yellowstone River meanders through central portions of the county. On the eastern edge of the county are the Pryor Mountains and the Big Horn River.

Minutes March 4 2010
     All Commissioners David Davidson, John Prinkki and Doug Tucker were present.  Clerk and Recorder Linda Ladvala was also present.

     The Commissioners reviewed the minutes for their meeting of March 1, 2010.  Commissioner Davidson moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Commissioner Tucker seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

     The Commissioners reviewed and approved the monthly reports submitted by Justice of the Peace Johnny Seiffert and Clerk and Recorder Linda Ladvala for the month of February 2010.

     A bid opening for 911 Dispatch Radio Equipment was held at 10:00 A.M.  Those present for the bid opening included Sheriff Tom Reiger, Undersheriff Dan McJunkin, Disaster and Emergency Services Director Darrel Krum and Tom Kohley.  One bid was received from Industrial Communications and Electronics in the amount of $109,055.90.  As stipulated in the call for bids, the bid included a proposal bond of 10%.  Equipment described in the bid includes a Computerized Radio Dispatch Console System and a GPS Synchronized Master Clock System. A separate option for on-site maintenance for the E911 and Radio Console Equipment, covering a five year period at a total cost of $17,375.00 ($3,475.00/yr) was also included as a separate add-on to the bid proposal.  The Commissioners will review the bid and make a final decision on Monday, March 8, 2010.

     Tom Kohley informed the Commissioners about an update for the county’s mapping program which is currently being reviewed for final approval and completion.  Additionally Tom is preparing an atlas for the county’s roads which will be available in both electronic and hardcopy (paper) format.  Use of grant money allows for some distribution of the road atlas to service agencies; however there will be a charge for individuals who wish to purchase the road atlas.

     The Commissioners spent the remainder of the day reviewing and approving claims against the county for the month of February 2010.
